I Desire Therefore I Am - Christian Entrepreneur Lectures
Picture an athlete running in a race for a desired trophy. He might even be a person trying for a world record in a particular event. There is one thing that will be easily obvious from the way that he conducts himself, and that is a great desire for the prize - a desire so great that he is willing to exert himself and strive against all obstacles to acquire the prize. Behind the desire he has placed all his energy, all his will power. all his effort. And until the event is over, that desire will be an obsession. He must have success; he must have the victory; he must have the prize - at all cost.
Success is created from such Desire .All achievement irrespective of the nature, or the purpose , must begin with an intense desire for something definite. As a matter of fact it is impossible to have any concept of what it means to achieve great success at anything until you can succeed in working yourself into an intense heat of DESIRE for the expected prize and actually BELIEVE you will possess it. There is of course a difference between wishing for the prize and being ready to receive it. The athlete must first convince himself on why he needs the prize at this particular time, and what the achievement will mean to him. He must be ready for the prize , and he must believe that he can get it, otherwise he will not. In actual fact no one is ready for anything until he believes he can acquire it. The state of the success-oriented mind must therefore be BELIEF and not a mere hope , and certainly not a wish. The winning stimulus for the athlete would not be a wish . It would be a keen, urgent DESIRE which overrides every other thought even as the race progresses. It would also be DEFINITE - else he would be unable to evaluate his success.
Do you have a personal goal in life ? How keen are you to achieve it ? By how much do you DESIRE it ?
You must declare it
Hab:2:2-3: And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Before beginning the race, the athlete has probably written a letter to the love of his life, his wife and possibly children, telling them how much the prize means to him, and how it is his desire to bring it home for a celebration . He knows why he must win, how he must win, and why he cannot afford to lose. This are very powerful success stimuli. Alongside, he would have instructed himself on how he will conduct himself during the race. Many cheap timberland boots students of success principles may have often come across similar curious instruction to expressly state their desire preferably in writing. Entrepreneurs are expected to write their Business Plan. The reasons to do all this may vary from one instructor to another, but certainly at the end of it all the victory is made sweeter in the knowledge that you have exactly achieved or probably surpassed your aim.
You must have faith in it
Heb:11:1-3: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Faith is not an inert substance - it always produces a result. The athlete had faith in himself; and thus faith that he could achieve the feat.It is often easy to spot who the winner of a race will be.It might not be the strongest in the group, it might not be the tallest; it might not even be the most athletic looking person; and it will certainly will not be the most desperate. It will be the one radiating so much confidence, who has the greatest faith in his ability, and who probably sees himself in possession of the prize already. Desire backed by faith pushes reason aside. See that it appears here to be an indication and buttress to the fact that physical things are first created through vision and an act of pronunciation before they actually become visible.
You must believe it
Mark:9:23: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
The lesson here is that you must not be afraid to dream great dreams. To achieve great success there has to be a great dream.Small dreams achieve small success or worse, merely attract mediocrity. Really, no more effort is required to aim high in life to demand abundance and prosperity, than is required to accept misery and poverty. If you are afraid of new ideas you are doomed to mediocre achievement even before you get off the starting block.Open-mindedness is essential for a belief that wins, and a closed mind will never inspire faith, courage and belief. Remember the saying : "as a man thinketh, so is he".
You must persistently desire it
Proverb:24:10: If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
Maybe you have many times been disappointed, you have undergone defeat in several endeavours, you have felt your heart crushed until it bled. Rise up again and dream a new dream . Your failures are actually assets of incomparable value. Without exception, all who succeeded in life get off to a bad start, and pass through many excruciating experiences before they "reach their promised land". The apostle Paul,in his own way knew about desire, faith, keeping the objective in view and persevering in spite of all obstacles . He sums it all up in his valedictory speech:
2Tm:4:7-8: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Finally you must declare this to yourself : There is one thing in the world that I am determined to have, and that is to have success in (the particular endeavour that interests you). For this I will leave no possible way of retreat, I will burn all bridges behind me and stake my entire future. I will either win or perish. And this is what desire means.
