Company Profile

The blast furnace shop employing five furnaces with total annual capacity of 2.3 mln tons produces conversion pig iron and cast iron from iron ore burden containing locally made sinter.

Basing on modern blast furnace technologies Zaporozhstal produces high quality pig iron for local manufacture of steel, large-size iron castings and commercial pig iron.

The pig iron produced by Zaporozhstal is known for its low sulphur and phosphorus content and finds fair demand in the world market. Foundry and conversion iron is cast into 15 to 18 kg pigs without knuckles. Ingots are shipped off piled in boxcars.

The steel-making shop of Zaporozhstal employs 9 open-hearth furnaces having capacity 250-500 tons and producing in total 3.3 mln tons of steel annually.

Steel is made by scrap-ore process using molten pig iron.
The open-hearth furnaces are fired with natural gas.
The steel-making process is intensified by using oxygen at every furnace.

Steel is blown with argon. The product comprises low-carbon structural and ordinary quality steel ingots weighing up to 20 tons for manufacture of rolled sheets.

There are six Rolling Mill Shops producing cold and hot rolled steel sheets, strips, tin-plate, PVC-coated sheets and cold-drawn sections.

Total sheet steel production output is 3.0 mln tons/year and 600,000 t of cold roll-formed sections.

1150-mm Slabbing Mill rolls carbon, alloyed and stainless steel ingots of up to 20 tons each to slabs 100 to 200 mm thick, 1000 to 1520 mm wide and 1800 to 4700 mm long.

Ingots are heated in the regenerating soaking pits. Slabs to be rolled for sheets, are transferred through hot charging to the wide strip hot rolling mill.

1680-mm Continuous Hot Strip Mill with 3.0 million tons/year capacity produces strips 2.0 to 7.0 mm thick, 1000 to 1500 mm wide and coils weighing up to 16.0 tons each.

The Hot Rolling Mill Shop is equipped with units providing supply of rolled sheets 5850 mm long and coils 100 to 1500 mm wide with inner dia of 750 mm.

The hot rolled sheet thickness is specified by consumer within the range from 2.0 mm to 6.0 mm.

Seven mills of Cold Rolling Mill Shop produce cold rolled sheets, strips and band of 0.2 to 5.0 mm thickness, 10 to 2000 mm width and up to 4000 mm sheet length and also steel coils having mass of 14.0 tons.

These shops produce the following items:
- Grinded and polished stainless steel sheets;
- PVC-coated steel sheets;
- Hot-dipped tin plate.

Three cold roll-forming machines produce over 500 sections (angles, channels etc.) and some special roll-formed sections made of carbon, low-alloyed and stainless steel with wall thickness from 1.0 to 7.0 mm and section width 1450 mm.

Zaporozhstal Works has established stable business relations with many companies of Europe, Asia and Middle East. The Works offers to export basic pig iron, HR coils & CR sheets. Shipment of export goods is by railway, river and sea through Zaporozhye river port, sea ports of Azov and Black Seas.

The Works imports up-to-date machinery and technology therefore it is interested in foreign investments for the Works revamping.

Consumer goods production is equipped with high-standard domestic and imported machinery and it allows Zaporozhstal Works to manufacture some 170 items including kitchen sinks, kitchen and table sets, household containers, pans, tourist flasks etc. made of stainless steel as well as items of plain carbon flat steel and cold roll-formed sections, wood and concrete (i.e. car garages, prefab summer cottages, parquetry, different type-sizes ferroconcrete slabs and blocks to mention but a few).
